Local Area

Stresa:Stresa (5,100 inhabitants) was 998 for the first time in documents and was mentioned "Strixsya, It derives its name from the Lombard word for her line, because the place is located on a relatively narrow "land" along the lake. The no longer existent head of the lake Creé announced divided Stresa in 2 parts, which were named after the respective lords , namely "Stresa Visconti" and "Stresa Borromeo. In the late 18th Century developed the place into one of the most popular swimming and recreational destinations in Europe, through the construction of the Simplon Pass by Napoleon and later the railway from Western and Central Europe and the South. The unique panoramic location on the south shore of Lake Maggiore with the stunning views of the Borromeo Gulf and its islands to the opposite shore was by Ernest Hemingway partially described in his worldwide hit "In another country", and also for many other writers and painters Stresa has been a very special source of inspiration. Even large political decisions took place in Stresa. "Treaty of Stresa" a term which in April 1935 the Government of France, Britain and Italy signed measures to avert the looming German expansion and war policy. The originals can be seen today in the rest of the former summer palace of the Borromeo on Isola Bella, the historical location at which the contracts were signed once. The beautiful waterfront hotels still impress the gorgeous Art Nouveau, and the charm of the Belle Epoque. In the vicinity there are many mansions, such as the Villa Pallavicino with a 160,000 m² large English style park with a zoological garden and the Villa Bolongaro (later known as Villa Ducale), where 1855 the philosopher Antonio Rosmini died. Pierre Antonio Bolongaro was incidentally the one who created the famous Margheritine (typical pastry of the place) in honor of the then Princess Margherita di Savoia - who was crowned as the first Queen of Italy. You have many opportunities for recreation. A trip to the local mountain Mottarone (1,491 meters above sea level) is actually a must: from the summit cross, enjoy in good weather the unique view of seven lakes to the glacier-covered Alpine peaks of the Valais and Ticino! For avid golfers, there are several golf courses nearby. However, the cultural experience with many wonderful concerts you don't have to miss out on Music Weeks.the ideal place to start your excursions around Lake Maggiore and its surrounding areas, Lake Como, Lake Lugano and nearby The district of Stresa, one of the most prestigious holiday resorts in Italy, has a wealth of opulent mansion houses. The roads winding from the lake shore up the slopes of Monte Mottarone are lined with luxuriant gardens and superb houses with loggias, balconies, porticoes, galleries, flights of steps, terraces and belvedere turrets.Villa Pallavicino: the estate covers an area of around 20 hectares, with flower-lined avenues, venerable trees and a marvellous botanic garden. Villa Pallavicino is a real natural oasis: sweeping lawns, shady avenues and open spaces planted with roses, oleanders, magnolias, daffodils, azaleas and rhododendrons blend perfectly with the majestic, mature trees of the wooded areas. The zoo is the major visitor attraction; over 40 species of exotic animals, including llamas, kangaroos, zebras, ferrets, beavers, hares and horses, and birds, including flamingos, parrots, pelicans, peacocks, owls and toucans, live uncaged in the park’s ample natural environments.Villa Aminta: Villa and Palazzo Aminta is an exclusive luxury holiday complex overlooking the Borromean Gulf. Refresh your mind and body with strolls through the flower-filled gardens, romantic candlelit dinners in the sophisticated Mori restaurant, and a health treatment in the new spa.Villa La Palazzola: This mansion, built by Count Flaviano Avogadro Casanova, originally stood on an immense estate extending as far as the main Simplon road and the river Roddo. The first stone of the building to be laid was blessed by Rosmini in June 1844. The last heir to the villa, Adolfo Pini, gifted it to the town of Stresa on the understanding that it would become a Foundation to promote art and culture. Some of the many other villas adding their prestige to Stresa are Villa Amalia Bernocchi, Villa Daisy Capucci Labadini, Villa Dora, Villa Excelsior, Villa Galimberti Bernocchi, Villa Teresita, Villa Vignolo and Villa Zinelli..Milan. Not far from Malpensa airport, and within 2 hours by car of the Ligurian Riviera (Genoa, Cinqueterre).
