Summary

Tom's Barn and Douglas’s Barn are both creatively converted farm buildings attached to the original Orchard Farm house where the owners live. Orchard Farm (one of many no longer working farms in the conservation village of Parwich) is most attractively situated on the edge of the village, ten minutes' stroll from the pub and small shop, church and bus stop, and right next to open farmland with wonderful walks literally from the door.

Tom's Barn welcomes dogs and is a great favourite with couples that appreciate warm and welcoming comfort and understated luxury enjoy walking - possibly with their dog - and the opportunity to enjoy excellent food, beer and wine in local pubs and restaurants.

As a guest you will enjoy the privacy and peace, but appreciate the fact that the (non-intrusive) owners are next door if and when needed for advice or help.

Description of Interior

From the outside Tom's Barn looks just like the cowshed it always was, although perhaps the colourful pots and pristine paintwork suggest at the transformation within...! No cows ever enjoyed such airy, bright, well-lit and comfortable surroundings.

As you go through the front door, on the left is the fully equipped kitchen with fridge freezer, washer/dryer, dishwasher, microwave and 2-oven electric cooker; there is a pine table and chairs for cosy dining, with enough of everything to entertain visiting 2 friends to a meal.

On the right of the front door you see the sitting room with comfortable seating in front of the log burner Light pours in through the huge gable-end window (with wooden shutters) and onto the galleried bedroom. Our Australian son-in-law's painting decorates the high walls, which reach the rafters.

Up the now carpeted stairs to the bedroom complete with ancient truss you see the king-size Vi-spring bed and mattress, supremely comfortable and much appreciated by our often weary and over-stressed guests!

The enchanting little en suite bathroom has Italian tumbled marble tiles, and a most unusual but quite delightful deep whirlpool bath for two.

Throughout you will find top quality equipment and furnishings and the interior walls and paintwork are all Farrow and Ball.

Garden and Exterior

Tom's Barn and the attached Douglas's Barn and Orchard Farm house are all set at attractive angles to each other around what was the original farmyard, facing south down a sheltered valley. There are wooden tables and chairs at which as a weary home-coming walker you will enjoy sitting in the sunshine, perhaps relaxing over a glass of wine in the evening.
The property has a large garden for the owners' use, but which adds to the sense of peace and beauty of the surroundings. There are lots of garden birds to be seen, encouraged by bird feeders and nesting boxes.
Tom's Barn also has its own private little cottage garden, with wooden tables and chairs, pots of flowers, a barbecue and sun parasol.
There is dedicated off road parking in the grounds.

A £100 deposit is needed to secure a booking. The balance is due 6 weeks prior to arrival. If a booking is cancelled the full amount is still due until or when we can re-let the dates, less a £10 admin charge. Local Area

Tom's Barn at Orchard Farm is lucky enough to be situated in the beautiful traditional White Peak village of Parwich, in a conservation area within the Peak National Park. Parwich is a rural village with a strong community, its own church, pub and little shop within the pub. It is not on a through route to anywhere so relatively traffic free and peaceful. The nearest town is Ashbourne, about 6 miles way; Bakewell is about 12 miles away, as is Matlock; Buxton - with its famous Opera House and the Buxton Festival in July - is 15 miles away but reached within half an hour by car.

There are several famous stately homes to be visited, including Chatsworth and `Haddon hall, both within a half hour’s drive; Kedleston and Hardwick Hall are both a bit further, as are Sudbury and Lyme Park.

The area is famous for its beautiful landscapes and beauty spots such as Dovedale; the High Peaks, Staffordshire Moorlands and Manifold Valley.

There is plenty to do too: hiking gliding climbing, gold and fishing... There is wonderful walking throughout, including the Tissington and High Peak Trails within easy reach; sailing, canoeing and windsurfing at Carsington Water ten minutes away.

Derbyshire is famous for its well dressings - the nearest to us being the Tissington well dressing which takes place around Ascension Day each year.

Finally, 'set jetters' will find plenty to excite them with many recent films such as Jane Eyre and Pride and Prejudice having been filmed locally.
