WELCOME TO THE REAL COUNTRYSIDE! The Cotswold stone built, 4* Granary Cottage, is over 250 years old and once housed the Single Gloucester Cheese that Farmer John's Great-Grandmother, Honor, produced and the corn and gain that Great-Grandfather Laurent fed to his live stock! When small cheese production became unviable and larger gain stores were needed, the Granary became redundant and was used as a wood and tool store and an over large rabbit hutch for Farmer John's pet rabbits! The cheese rooms and granary,by then a sorry sight, were converted into a holiday cottage in the 1970's by Farmer John's Father, Eldon Chappell. It was, over the years, used as an holiday cottage, long term let and then granny annex. But once again the Granary has taken on new life! Completely re-furbished from top to bottom in 2011by Rose, the cottage is again a Holiday Let, but now proudly boasts a four star rating and traditional country charm, with all mod cons! The lay-out of the cottage is reversed, the lounge, kitchen & small cloak room are 'up-stairs', to take full advantage of the stunning views and the bedrooms and bathroom are 'down-stairs', still with pleasent outlooks, but not the panoramic views enjoyed upstairs!

Description of Interior

The character filled Granary lounge, with its beamed ceiling, stone built, open log fire, comfortable sofas, TV with built in Free view, DVD player, ipod dock, books, toys, games and stunning views is somewhere you just want to curl up and relax in! The fully equipped, brand new for 2011 kitchen, also enjoys stunning views over our fields. The sun porch, with its picture window, is an ideal spot to enjoy a coffee and the view! There are 2 bedrooms, one double, that over looks the lower pation area, and one twin bedroom with full sized single beds. A brand new bathroom was fitting in 2011,it has a bath with glass shower screen and safety shower, (Not one of those annoying showers from the bath taps!). The lower porch leads into the wood store and from there on to the lower patio area.

Garden and Exterior

The Granary Cottage has its own private garden with 2 patio areas, the upper patio enjoys views over our fields to the woods beyond, it is ideal for BBQing and has chairs, table, sun shade & pretty flower troughs and a charcoal BBQ. On the same level as the upper patio is the lawned area, this has a sturdy bench and is ideal for enjoying the view in day time or for star gazing at night! The lower patio, which has a traditional flagstone floor amd pretty flower containers, is more secluded and is ideal for sunbathing, reading, bird or wildlife watching or just sitting back and relaxing.

Local Area

The South Cotswolds and Royal Gloucestershire are justly listed as 'Areas Of Outstanding Natural Beauty'. On the cusp of the ancient Cotswold escapement, the views are stunning all around. No wonder so many royals and famous people make the Gloucestershire Cotswolds their home! The 4* Granary Cottage is ideally placed to tour all that the beautiful Cotswolds & Royal Gloucestershire has to offer! You can visit quaint Cotswold villages and towns, such as Castle Coombe & Bourton-On-The-Water and enjoy scrummy cream teas! The Cotswolds is also one of the best walking areas in the country; we have The Cotswold Way & The Monarch’s Way running through our land! Here at Lovettswood Farm you are free to roam our 660 organic acres! Walk out of the cottage gate straight into the open countryside! Farmer John also offers you a farm tour with a milking experience! Watch the milking and have a go yourself!

The Cotswolds aren’t, however, just about picturesque cottages and tea shops! You can take a chauffeured Motor-Trike tour of the Cotswolds, throw a high performance car around Castle Coombe's Race Circuit, take a stomach dropping Glider flight over the edge of the Cotswold escarpment, enjoy an adventurous Balloon flight over the beautiful Berkeley Vale, (you may even land in one of our fields!), hone your survival skills at paintballing, or your competitive skills at Go-Kart racing or even Rock Climb the side of the Cheddar Gorge!! Bicycles and electric bicycles can be hired nearby, (These will be delivered to The Granary Cottage for you), and much, much more!

We can boast many famous National Trust & English Heritage properties & sites nearby, most of which have been used to film anything from Harry Potter to Cranford and Pride & Prejudice to Dr Who! Lacock Abbey & Gardens, Dyrham House, Newark House, Avebury Village, Bath’s Assembly Rooms, to name but a few!

Walk in Jane Austen’s footsteps! The stunning Regency City of Bath was once home to the famous author; indeed she set most of her darkly Gothic tale, Northanger Abbey in Bath! The Jane Austen Experience is a must for fans, or if you just want one of the best afternoon teas Bath has to offer!

Visit the Harry Potter film sites of Lacock Abbey, Lacock Village & Gloucester Cathedral, stroll around the towns of Chipping Sodbury and Winterbourne, both once home to J K Rowling or spend a few hours in Dursley, the unfortunate town that gave its name to THAT family!

For our younger guests, apart from learning all about farming and milk production from Farmer John, ( 'Where our food comes from' is part of the National Curriculum); there is a huge variety of attractions and events to keep them occupied! Adventure/Play Attractions: Bowood Adventure Park, Old Down Country Park, Robins Wood Country Park & Dry Ski Slope, Magic Land Soft Play. Farm/Adventure Parks: Cotswold Farm Park (Adam's Farm from Countryfile), Cattle Country, Avon Valley Country Park, St Augustine’s Farm. Zoos/Animal Parks: Longleat House & Safari Park, Bristol Zoo & Gardens, Noah's Ark Farm Zoo, Horse world. Bird Parks/Attractions: Slimbridge Wild Fowl & Wetland Centre, Bird Land, Prinknash Abbey Bird & Deer Park. Cotswold Falconry Centre, Newent Birds of Prey. Caves/Adventure Centres: Wookey Hole, Cheddar Caves & Gorge, Clearwell Caves. Stream Trains/Transport. Avon Valley Steam Railway, Calne Motor Museum. Not forgetting our very own local 700 year old Berkeley Castle, with its grisly history and special event days! And much, much more!
