Local Area

The Dartmouth Arms – Located on Dartmouth Road serves seasonal food, wine and real ales. It is a fabulous local community pub and restaurant and serves a traditional pint as well as a carefully selected range of wines.

Question Bar - Is a modern bar also located on Dartmouth Road and offers a good choice of drinks, a wide range of classic dishes plus fresh stone baked pizzas.

There are several other eateries such as All Inn One, Bird in Hand and The Capitol (JD Wetherspoon) as well as the Forest Hill Fish & Chips Shop which serves arguably the best fish and chips in the whole of London.

You have the choice of three very lovely parks locally, the Mayow Park, the affluent Dulwich Park and the Crystal Palace National Park where major athletics events and other various activities are held.

Nearby is The Sydenham Wells Park, considered to be one of the most attractive parks around. It is named after medicinal springs which were found in Sydenham in the seventeenth century. These medicinal springs attracted crowds of people to the Sydenham and some of the former wells in the area are within the park's grounds and the springs are still active.

The Park has mature trees and shrubs, proper gardens, large play area for families, a multi sports ball court and, during the summer, a putting green. The park has a number of facilities including an under fives playground, a large playground for over five with a water play area, a multi surface court with basketball and football facilities, a tennis court, nature reserve, flower gardens, ponds and toilets in the grounds keepers building.

Forest Hill is home to the celebrated Horniman Museum which has a newly opened aquarium (2006) and one of the most varied collections of taxidermy in the northern hemisphere. It houses one of the finest collections of musical instruments in the British Isles and contained within its accompanying gardens is an animal enclosure, flower gardens and a Grade II Listed early 20th century greenhouse. Views from the gardens stretch out over central and north London.

The Horniman hosts several activities for children, adults and families such as arts and crafts sessions and courses and workshops. It has a unique range of exhibitions, events and activities which illustrate the cultural and natural world, as well as collections of anthropology, natural history and musical instruments. It is only about 5-7 minutes’ walk from the apartment. A full range of events and activities take place for different audiences including storytelling and art and craft sessions for children, and courses and workshops for adults.
