3 Family Friendly Destinations In The UK

3 family-friendly destinations in the UK

Who says that you need to go abroad to have an amazing family holiday? Adventure could be waiting in the very country you live in. The UK is a beautiful place, with eclectic landscapes and a plethora of cultures to immerse yourself in; you'll never run out of things to do and the whole family are guaranteed to have a fantastic time, especially if the weather is on your side.

Don't just take our word for it - other people have begun to recognise the UK as a perfect holiday destination as more than 37.9 million tourists visited the UK in 2018 – an increase of more than 44% since 2002. The big question you need to ask yourself is: where's the best place to visit? It's hard to narrow it down, as the UK has so much to offer, but here are three destinations that you have to add to your travel bucket list:

  1. Cornwall, England

For families who prefer a seaside adventure, Cornwall could be the ideal location for you. More than 2.6m people visited the South West in 2017, attracted to quaint seaside towns and adventure that hides behind every corner. The sandy beaches in Cornwall are some of the cleanest in England, making them the ideal spot to relax and sunbathe on; if you're a more active family, the choppy waves are perfect for those looking to try their hand at surfing.

Cornwall is oozing with history and there are many landmarks and historic sites to visit that your children will be eager to learn more about. Tintagel Castle is always a popular landmark for tourists to visit and so many stories are waiting to be uncovered in the beautiful 13th century ancient ruins.

  1. Edinburgh, Scotland

Scotland is renowned for its rugged landscapes, and bustling cities with endless activities to partake in. The country has become somewhat of a tourist hotspot for families, as the amount of people visiting increased by 35% between 2012 and 2017. Edinburgh, in particular, is a must visit destination as the capital has so much to offer. Animal lovers will be delighted by Edinburgh Zoo, which is home to the koala and lions and many other animals that you might not find in smaller zoos.

For a more cultured experience, visit Edinburgh when the city's Fringe Festival takes place between July and August; the whole family can look forward to comedy acts and theatre performances from up and coming stars.

  1. Belfast, Northern Ireland

Many people forget about Northern Ireland when they start planning their UK escape, but it's actually the perfect place to visit as a family. St George's market is ideal for the family shopaholics, who are guaranteed to bag a bargain at the market's many stalls which are littered with unique items.

Fans of the popular TV show 'Game of Thrones' will be in their element at Belfast's Game of Thrones experience, which takes you on a tour of where some scenes were filmed. When you want to relax, C.S. Lewis Square is the ideal location to unwind, as the kids can run around and find every C.S Lewis inspired sculpture in the area, while parents can enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the natural landscape.
