Cities and towns:

Lucca is the largest of its hidden gems, the medieval town awaits us with the typical Tuscan traits we are expecting: winding streets and bustling squares (piazzas), pink palaces (palazzos), family businesses, like butcher shops, ice cream shops, almost as old as the same city. But if something defiLeaning Tower Pisa Italy.jpg (Preview)nes Lucca above all, it is without doubt its towering red walls that have protected it through the centuries against the course of history. Near Lucca is Barga, another beautiful medieval town, with the legendary and mysterious Devil's Bridge (Ponte del Diavolo), the legend says that it was built by the devil in one night. Another beautiful village close to Lucca, in Tuscany, is Bagni di Lucca, known for its thermal springs since Etruscan and Roman times.

Pisa is another place for temptation, do not forget to take the classic photograph underpinning the famous Leaning Tower, the crown jewel that holds Pisa in its Piazza del Duomoque and that has being sinking into the ground since its construction more than nine centuries ago.

Siena Tuscany Italy.jpg (Preview)Siena is for many the real Tuscany. It was one of the richest cities of Europe during the Middle Ages. The imposing Piazza del Campo is the heart of the urban area, where, every summer, the Corsa del Palio is held, the famous horse race in which the 17 districts of the city compete against each other.

San Gimignano is a village perched on a hill where you can enjoy one of the most beautiful and unsuspected skylines in Europe, its 15 towers. They were the fortified residences of powerful families, enriched by the saffron trade, in its heyday it was said to have 72 towers. The houses are kept identical to when they were built back in the XIVth century, allowing us to believe we have travelled in time.San Gimignano Skyline.jpg (Preview)

Florence is perhaps the most beautiful city in the world, if art has a world capital, it is Florence. The Uffizi Gallery, Ponte Vecchio (Old Bridge), the duomo, the Basilica of Santa Maria dei Fiore, the Accademia Gallery (Galleria dell'Accademia) where you must see the Michelangelo's David, the Giambologna's Rape of the Sabines and the Botticelli's Madonna and Child and Madonna of the Sea.

There is a lot to see and do in Tuscany, the difficulty is really where to start. But that is easy now: Rent a luxury holiday accommodation direct from the owner on Holiday Rental and start your cultural and sensory holiday adventure in Tuscany.
