Local Area

The area has so much to offer that you may just run out of vacation before you get to see and do all there is to see and do. Whether your vacation to-do-list has one single item or is overflowing, if you want to spend your days relaxing on the numerous west coast beaches or be active and adventurous, we guarantee all are possible and can be accomplished from your base at Miri-Joy Apartments. We take the stress so YOU our guests will have your rest.

Miri-Joy Apartments are located in the north of the island on the edge of a small fishing village in Six Men’s, St. Peter. If you fancy Scuba Diving, Pamir is a 165ft long wreck that sits in 60ft of water just off Six Men’s. The infamous Braddy’s Bar one of the local watering holes along the bay front, sells fresh fish cooked over a wood fire Fridays and Saturdays – a popular liming spot for all where discussions on life and politics sometimes become rather entertaining. If you buy fresh fish from the bay, you are sure to be asked if you are staying at the green apartments. Most Saturday afternoons you will see the local guys coming back from spear diving with a colorful and diverse catch – sometimes including lobsters and lion fish. The closest beach is really a 2 minute walk, one of the islands specialty restaurants: The Fish Pot is less than a 5 minute walk, local transportation is practically on your door step without the noise. If you want a beach with beautiful golden sand a 10 minute leisurely walk will take you to a cove just opposite Port Ferdinand – the islands latest luxury marina. The nearest shopping area: Speightstown is a 5 minute drive away

Some famous Barbadian landmarks are to be found within walking distance from the Apartments, just beyond the fishing bay in a southerly direction towards Speightstown : Heywood Beach the perfect beach for swimming and snorkeling, the newly built luxury Marina Port Ferdinand as well as the renowned Port St. Charles Marina. Both Marinas have a restaurant which are open to the public and well worth a visit. You will also find a gem of a beach down the steps by the swing bridge opposite Port Ferdinand. A five minute northerly walk will take you to Little Good Harbor Hotel and the Fish Pot Restaurant, a beautiful beach front dining experience. Although the sea here is a little rocky the beach is perfect for sunbathing. If you continue walking along that coast line you will come to an area known as ‘Moontown’ – home of St. Elmo’s supermarket come bar come restaurant and Merton’s Place the local weekend fish-fry liming spot – delicious food not to be missed.

The quaint settlement of Speightstown, is just a 5 minute drive away. It offers a wide variety of stores and services: Arlington House Museum, Commercial Banks, Supermarkets, Shopping, Art Gallery, a Post Office, a Library, Police Station, Petrol Station, a Pet Store, Beauty Salons, Pharmacies, Doctors, Churches of various denominations, Fast Food Restaurants and a Dry Cleaners. Whether it’s a light snack or an evening meal you fancy, the town boasts of fine local & international dining restaurants. Speightstown also offers some excellent examples of original Barbados architecture. You will also find road side vendors selling local fruit and vegetables from early morning until late afternoon. Most stores in Speightstown open at 8am and close at 5pm. Supermarkets remain open until 8pm.

For those of you who want to see our underwater beauty, there is a Dive Shop right in the heart of Speightstown, water skiing, wakeboarding, catamaran cruises, rides on the inflatables – all are available from a local watersports company.

Our location allows easy access to any part of the island on the local bus service, even from the airport. The nearest bus stop is a two minute walk where you can catch a bus to Speightstown, Bridgetown or in the other direction to St. Lucy. Bus fare on all public service vehicles is 2.00 Barbados dollars for a single ride.

The Northern Bus Terminal which is situated in Speightstown, provides a network of government buses to:

The Capital Bridgetown - with views of beautiful west coast beaches and shopping areas.

The North-East – stopping at Farley Hill National Park, The Wildlife Reserve, Barclays Park (good picnic spot) and continuing to Bathsheba the surfers paradise on the rugged east coast.

The South of the Island - travel either on the Express ABC bus via the Highway with access to the out-of-town Shopping Malls and connections to St. Thomas for Harrisons Cave and St. George for Gun Hill Signal Station, or a local scenic service which passes along the west coast, The Garrison Historic Area, west coast hotels and beaches – before arriving at the location of the islands largest fish fry on Friday and Saturday nights – Oistins. The local bus continues to the airport.

The North – River Bay and The animal Flower Cave, both popular picnic areas with breathtaking views of the rugged coastline.
